University of Brescia PhD Scholarship Benefits
The University of Brescia offers generous financial support to doctoral candidates through PhD scholarships.
Annual Scholarship Amount
Starting from the 2026/2027 academic year, the minimum annual gross PhD scholarship amount has been increased to €18,432.84 per year.
Scholarship payments are distributed monthly throughout the duration of the programme.
Additional Funding for International Research
Doctoral students conducting research activities outside Italy may receive an increase of 50% of their scholarship amount for approved research periods lasting at least 15 consecutive days.
The increase can be granted for a cumulative period of up to 12 months during the three-year PhD programme, subject to approval by the PhD Board of Professors or the Programme Coordinator.
Research Budget
In addition to the scholarship, all PhD students are provided with a dedicated research budget from the first year of enrollment. The budget is equal to at least 10% of the annual scholarship amount and can be used to support research activities both in Italy and abroad.
This funding is reimbursed according to university regulations and is available to both scholarship recipients and non-recipients, with specific exceptions outlined by the university.
Scholarship Renewal Conditions
PhD scholarships are renewed annually based on academic progress. To continue receiving funding, doctoral candidates must:
- Successfully complete the planned activities for the academic year.
- Receive approval from the PhD Board of Professors.
- Be admitted to the following year of the programme.
Students who have previously benefited from a PhD scholarship, even partially, are not eligible to receive another PhD scholarship under these regulations.
Scholarship Restrictions
PhD grants awarded by the University of Brescia cannot generally be combined with other scholarships or grants. However, exceptions may be made for funding provided by national or international institutions that supports research activities conducted outside Italy.
